Not one to be left in the dust, PlayStation announced only yesterday that they would be holding a new State of Play presentation to unofficially (or officially, who knows) kick off Summer Games Fest.
Sony promised around forty minutes of news and updates from a selection of games coming to the PS5, with a selection of games from creators around the globe.
I’m writing this a day prior, manifesting something new and exciting from Capcom and maybe even Konami too, but read on to see how the announcements played out.
ALL OF THE JUNE 2025 PLAYSTATION STATE OF PLAY ANNOUNCEMENTS
IO INTERACTIVE FINALLY SHOWED US WHAT THEIR PROJECT 007 GAME LOOKS LIKE
The game will follow a younger Bond, during his early years as he earns the coveted codename. It features guns, cars and girls which is arguably the three core tenets of a Bond game. It’s out in 2026.
NETHERREALM IS FINALLY PAYING TRIBUTE TO THIER PAST WITH A MORTAL KOMBAT KOLLECTION
The collection brings together literally EVERY version of the first four Mortal Kombat games with full rollback netcode. Even the shitty handheld ports get their time too. It’s out in 2025.
SQUARE ENIX IS BRINGING THE GOODS WITH A FINAL FANTASY TACTICS REMAKE
It’s a recreation of the 1997 original, with both an enhanced version with improvements and a faithful recreation of the original game. It’s out in September for both PS4 and PS5.
GHOST OF YOTEI GOT A LENGTHY STORY TRAILER WHICH IS COOL
This one isn’t my bag but I am so happy for those who were keen for this. There will be a dedicated State of Play with a gameplay deep dive in July.
ARC SYSTEM WORKS IS MAKING A MARVEL THEMED FIGHTING GAME
It’s not Marvel vs. Capcom, but it’s a very fast-paced 4v4 tag fighter that features a very vibrant art style. It’s called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and it’s scheduled for release in 2026. You can think of it as Marvel vs. Capcom, but without the Capcom.
THE SHOW OPENED WITH A TRIPPY LOOK AT A NEW LUMINES GAME
It looks as melodically satisfying as the previous games and will have PSVR2 too. It looks as stylish as Tetris Effect, the team’s last game. It’s out in the American fall of 2025.
CAPCOM GAVE US A MUCH BETTER LOOK AT PRAGMATA FOLLOWING A LENGTHY SILENCE
The game is a brand new action IP from Capcom that has you carrying a (maybe) cybernetic girl across a lunar base in what Capcom is calling a unique blend of action and strategy. You essentially control a soldier AND the young girl named Diana. It’s still on track for 2026.
ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN IS A NEW BLOODY ACTION GAME WITH A KOOKY TONE FROM SUDA51 HIMSELF
A frenetic blend of ultraviolence and science fiction, the game looks like one for the fans of No More Heroes and the like. It’s out in 2026.
KONAMI GAVE US AN EVEN BETTER LOOK AT SILENT HILL f AND ITS COMBAT
The game has you playing as a Japanese schoolgirl and, in a twist for the franchise, entirely taking place outside of Silent Hill. I think it looks pretty great for a new direction in the franchise. It’s out in September too.
THE BLOODSTAINED TEAM IS WORKING ON ANOTHER GAME AND ITS FAMILIAR AS
The game is channelling Castlevania in the best way possible but takes place before the events of the original game. It’s called Bloodstained: The Castle Engagement.
WE GOT AN EXTENDED AND DRAMATIC LOOK AT THE NEW DIGIMON GAME
I feel like these are announced every few months but here’s another one. It’s out on October 3rd 2025.
BABY STEPS IS A CURSED ADVENTURE ALSO OUT IN SEPTEMBER
It looks like an Octodad vibe where you control a character who has to pee, except you control both legs independently. Very dynamic. It’s out in September.
HIROGAMI IS AN ORIGAMI ACTION PLATFORMER
You play as a hero named Hiro, which is clever, but you have a cool ability to fold things.
NINJA GAIDEN RAGEBOUND FINALLY HAS A RELEASE DATE
The game is essentially Ninja Gaiden, except made by the people who brought us Blasphemous. It looks bloody and frenetic which is all you can ask for from a Ninja Gaiden game. It’s out on July 31st.
IT’S A BIG CLIMBING DAY FOR CLIMBERS WITH ANOTHER LOOK AND RELEASE DATE FOR CAIRN
It even has a demo out today. The final game will be available in November.
KONAMI POPPED UP AGAIN TO SHOW OFF YET ANOTHER METAL GEAR SOLID DELTA TRAILER
Look I am excited for this but I feel like we’ve been talking about it for twelve years with a trailer at every showcase. It’s still on track for an August release.
TEAM NINJA IS BRINGING US ANOTHER NIOH GAME, BUT THIS ONE LOOKS TO HAVE A BIT OF A TWIST
The game will have the same fast-paced action you’ve come to expect from the team behind games like Nioh and Ninja Gaiden, but it has you playing as an up-and-coming Shogun. It’s out in 2026, but there is a demo available today too.
PLAYSTATION IS MAKING THEIR OWN FIGHTSTICK WHICH IS COOL IF YOU WANTED THAT
VERY dynamic.
THIEF IS GETTING ITS MONKEYPAW MOMENT WITH A NEW GAME
Developed in collaboration with Eidos Montreal, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is a VR reimagining of the game. It’s being handled by the Metro Awakening and Arizona Sunshine devs, so you know it’s good.
TIDES OF TOMORROW LOOKS LIKE NOTHING ELSE I’VE EVER SEEN BUT IN AN ENTIRELY NEUTRAL WAY
The game is a multiplayer story. That’s all I know. Needless to say that my tide is low. It’s out in 2026.
CONTINUING THE THEME, SEA OF REMNANTS WAS ALSO SHOWN
If you like the ocean, then PlayStation has a few games for you this showcase. This one is a voyage-themed free-to-play RPG. Not for me, but if you’re one who’s severely dehydrated, I am sure you will like these watery games. It’s also out in 2026.
SWORD OF THE SEA IS THE NEXT GAME FROM THE MIND THAT BROUGHT US ABZU
Of all the watery games shown in this aquatically themed block of announcements, this is the one I am most excited for. It’s out in August.
ASTRO BOT IS GETTING YET ANOTHER UPDATE WITH SOME MORE LEVELS
The content update drops at July 10th and will feature five brand new levels being added to the Vicious Void Galaxy. And, of course, brand new Special Bots to rescue.
